We met on an unusually warm day at the beach in Chesterton. I had expected a rather empty beach, but instead found that many were out and about enjoying the sweet sunshine and mild air. Jill, a senior at LaCrosse, has to have one of the pretties smiles I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. Right off the bat I could tell she’s one of those happy-go-lucky girls. A delight to work with! The subtle colors of sunset appeared over the glasslike water, and set the mood for the session. It was a day to rejoice in one last hurrah before winters blanket decended. I think that’s one good reason to spin about, don’t you?

When Asher had turned 6 months old, the family not only continued with his “grow with me” sessions, but thought it was the opportune time to also do some portraits for the whole family. The location we decided upon was a state park in North Liberty called Potato Creek. I hadn’t been there in years, but remembered it having a big lake and bike trails. It has a lot more to see than what I remembered, and turned out to be an awesome location. His adorable sister Braelyn was a big helper. It has been a blast to watch Asher grow. I’ve photographed him as a newborn, a 3 month old, and now 6 months. I’ll also be following him all the way to 12 months, so expect two more sessions with this growing family. The family also wanted to announce some news… their having baby #3!

Several months ago I was contacted by someone in Tennessee to design a birth announcement.  By communicating via email and looking at images of the babies nursery, I was able to come up with a design that the client loved. Her photographer, Brandy Jaggers did an amazing job with the newborn photography, and the whole design came together perfectly. The bamboo paper gave a soft luxurious feel to the card, and we turned the orientation of the accordion card to better fit the images. I love how they turned out, and was glad for the opportunity to create something special for the new addition to the family.

While most of my time is taken with photography and graphic design, I do find some time to work on sewing projects. Here’s a sample of a dress I’m working on for an upcoming little one’s session. Since I don’t use patterns I thought I had better make a practice dress before I made the real outfit. This one has a kid friendly pocket for carrying little friends. You’ll find the dress for sale in the etsy store soon. I already love this sweet little dress and have decided it must be made into an adult size!

Here’s a sneak peek of what I’m working on today. It was the perfect evening for this session at Potato Creek State Park! Check back soon for the full post from the session.
