My cousin Georgia is the closest thing I have to a sister. When we heard about the Boston bombings, I sent a shaky text to see that she was okay. Honestly I could have blubbered when I heard she was fine. She’s a runner. She’s a runner who’s I knew was planning on trying to qualify for the 2014 Boston marathon. She could have been there. She was in fact there at the marathon, but had left and made it home before she had even heard about the bombing. Thank God.

Even though there’s a little bit of an age difference between us, I’m still young at heart, love coffee shops, and many other things she loves. In fact she’s been doing a bit of photography, check out her blog. Unfortunately during her entire visit, my vehicle was in terrible cahoots, so the day before she left we finally were able to meet up for a sunset session on a lake, and some Mucho Mas. I love the little pockets of light we were able to find, and that dress! Red is your color Georgia!

When Asher had turned 6 months old, the family not only continued with his “grow with me” sessions, but thought it was the opportune time to also do some portraits for the whole family. The location we decided upon was a state park in North Liberty called Potato Creek. I hadn’t been there in years, but remembered it having a big lake and bike trails. It has a lot more to see than what I remembered, and turned out to be an awesome location. His adorable sister Braelyn was a big helper. It has been a blast to watch Asher grow. I’ve photographed him as a newborn, a 3 month old, and now 6 months. I’ll also be following him all the way to 12 months, so expect two more sessions with this growing family. If you’re interested in a “grow with me” package you can email me at, or fill out the contact form on the bottom of the home page.

The family also wanted to announce some news… their having baby #3!

This family portrait session took place on the Yellow River Road property. The warm light in this session was just wonderful! It reminded me a bit of Rembrandt’s colors. The Banks family is one family I loved working with. They just happen to be my family but I really do think they are kind, down to earth people. I noticed a while ago that their children are the most well behaved kids ever. I’m told that not only are they good kids, but they’re really smart. Natalie, a natural around the camera, loves to read and is a bit shy, like me! Noah has always been in high ability classes, loves sports, and playing guitar with his dad. Whether its grocery shopping or traveling, the family loves to do things together. They even agreed to have a picnic with my mini homemade apple pies. I hope they’ll love these images as much as I do! Enjoy!

P.S. Keep an eye out for another blog post on a special little project we worked on with this family.

It really is gorgeous weather for a family portrait. Here is a little sneak peek of a session from this past weekend. More to come!
