Shay is such a sweet girl. She’s the sort that has a happy disposition, is energetic and outgoing without being in your face. What a pleasant teen! What’s even better is her faith. She’s a Jesus lover and I love that. I’ve known her for several years (we attend the same church), but have never really had the chance to get to know her. She’s about the same age I was when I first went on a youth group missions trip to the reservations in South Dakota. Looking back I can see myself as timid, moody, selfish, and at the same time, hungry for something, teen. Contrasting my 16 year old self, against Shay, I can already see she’s strides ahead in her character, and she’ll be a leader. What a bright future ahead of you Shay!

Last night we played with hair and makeup and set out on a playful adventure in the woods and prairie. You’ll be seeing more of Shay as an occasional model and assistant.

My cousin Georgia is the closest thing I have to a sister. When we heard about the Boston bombings, I sent a shaky text to see that she was okay. Honestly I could have blubbered when I heard she was fine. She’s a runner. She’s a runner who’s I knew was planning on trying to qualify for the 2014 Boston marathon. She could have been there. She was in fact there at the marathon, but had left and made it home before she had even heard about the bombing. Thank God.

Even though there’s a little bit of an age difference between us, I’m still young at heart, love coffee shops, and many other things she loves. In fact she’s been doing a bit of photography, check out her blog. Unfortunately during her entire visit, my vehicle was in terrible cahoots, so the day before she left we finally were able to meet up for a sunset session on a lake, and some Mucho Mas. I love the little pockets of light we were able to find, and that dress! Red is your color Georgia!

As mentioned in the previous sneak peek post, things are-a-changing here at The Whimsy Tree. Good Changes! Growth! Sometimes we start things with just small mindsets about the future, and it turns out that your vision needs enlarged. So be it. I’ll be releasing details bit by bit.

This concept session morphed into it’s own special project. Turns out it has a story, but for now I’ll leave you once again with this quote and still imagery…

“The truth is that when one is still a child-or even if one is grown up- and has been well fed, and has slept long and softly and warm; when one has gone to sleep in the midst of a fairy story, and has wakened to find it real, one cannot be unhappy or even look as if one were; and one could not, if one tried, keep a glow of joy out of one’s eyes.”
Frances Hodgson Burnett
