I designed this birth announcement for baby Asher. I’m loving the chevron pattern and thought I’d try a fun take on it for a birth announcement. I decided on non-traditional colors of cool gray and gold, because I wanted a bit more modern look. The folded 5×7 cards were printed on a lightly textured watercolor paper. I also carried the design into the mini accordion album as well. What do you think?

The new year is just around the corner so I thought I’d give you a heads up on some changes for this next year.

While I love what I do, I’m also seeking to make a living, so my special pricing for 2011 will change in 2012. Due to the necessity of “making a living”, I have to raise the session prices. On January 1st, please visit the photography page to see the price changes. Below, I’ve made an infograph for you to see why it’s necessary for me to raise the prices.

You may have noticed on Facebook, that I posted a gift card offering –  buy a gift card and lock in the current session fee. It’s not too late to request gift cards for Christmas. Use the contact form on the home page, or email me directly at elicia@thewhimsytree.com

A snowflake is one of God’s most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together! -anonomous

So… I’m not the biggest fan of winter, but there are some aspects of the season that aren’t too terrible. Winter has become a season of rest for me, so, I foresee baking, quilting, sewing, reading, movies, coffee shops, naps, taxes, and planning for the next season. For now I’ve found enjoyment in my new lens which I cannot wait to use in this next year’s sessions. Here are some images I’ve been enjoying the past week since our first snow. I was doing a bit of reading on snowflakes and stumbled upon Wilson Bentley. While I enjoy the intricate designs of snowflakes, I’ve decided that I do not want to make my profession a snowflake photographer. Brrr!

This family is too sweet. Here are couple of my favorites from their mini session.
